Symbolic Ceremonies
Symbolic Ceremonies are a memorable addition to a wedding ceremony and are a lovely way to pay tribute to loved ones, family or cultural traditions that are important to the couple. Below are examples of such ceremonies but I'm open to anything the couple would like to include.
Unity Candle
The unity candle consists of a center candle with a smaller candle on either side. The couple, their parents or mothers, light the outside candles, then together light the center candle, representing the joining of the couple and their families.
Sand Ceremony
Each spouse has a container of sand. It could be sand from different places or different colored sand. As the officiant speaks about the symbolism, the couple, or members of their family, pour the individual containers of sand into one larger, glass vessel, representing the joining of two people and/or families.
The Lover's Knot
While the officiant reads about the knot, the couple each hold the end of a rope that is prepared with the beginning of a knot. At the end of the reading, the couple each pulls their end of the rope and literally, tie the knot. This is nice at the end of the ceremony, before the couple are officially announced.
